Turning sceptics into advocates: Cabooter Group sparks enthusiasm with Kalmar Electric Reachstacker

Kalmar Electric Reachstacker turns Cabooter Group into a leader in sustainable innovation.

Cabooter Group is a global logistics solution provider specialising in the cost-efficient movement of goods using freight and other transport modes. Operating from hubs in Venlo and Kaldenkirchen, its goal is to become the industry leader in emission reduction.

Roughly 20% of the European Union’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are derived from heavy industry. In 2021, the European Climate Law set a legally binding target for Europe’s economy and society to become climate-neutral by 2050. It also targeted a 55% reduction in net GHG emissions by 2030.

In light of this, the World Economic Forum, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the International Energy Agency have all identified electric vehicles as a cost-effective solution for reducing carbon emissions.

An early adopter of Kalmar’s Eco Reachstacker back in 2015, Cabooter Group continues to lead the way in electrification. In 2019, the company signed an agreement to become the pilot customer for the very first Kalmar Electric Reachstacker, which they received in 2023. Since then, Cabooter Group has placed an order for a second Electric Reachstacker.

Cabooter Group is committed to reducing its emissions, as well as actively supporting its customers with their own electric-powered transformations.

Hans Cabooter, President and CEO of Cabooter Group, says “I think every entrepreneur should have a moral compass, and participate in the transition to a greener way of working.”

Electric vehicles take centre stage

As well as using the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker to transform its terminal operations, Cabooter Group has also created a dedicated space where customers can witness the impact of this solution first-hand.

They can even test-drive the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker in a live, operational environment.

Maurice Butin Bik, Sales Manager for Kalmar Netherlands, says “Initially, customers approached with scepticism and a critical eye. However, the dynamics changed dramatically when they allowed their drivers to take the lead and experience the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker first-hand.”

Driving eco-efficiency

These experiences were a decisive factor in altering leaders’ perceptions, whose original scepticism gave way to being impressed by the Electric Reachstacker’s tangible benefits.

Butin Bik concludes “The shift in perspective was nothing short of remarkable.”

The positive feedback from these initial customer visits is not just a testament to the power of first-hand experiences in reshaping perceptions, but also the capabilities displayed by the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker.

Reducing carbon emissions

Powered by advanced lithium-ion battery technology, the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker offers a lifting capacity of up to 45 tonnes, while improving operational eco-efficiency.

To further bring down their carbon emissions, Kalmar customers now have the option of having their Electric Reachstacker built with 47% SSAB Zero™ Green Steel, made from recycled steel and produced using fossil-free electricity and biogas.

Kalmar also offers Eco Driving Training, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and long-lifetime hydraulic oil for businesses looking to improve the sustainability of each individual reach stacker, and further reduce carbon emissions.

Embracing sustainable innovation

The performance of the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker and strong customer feedback convinced Cabooter Group to purchase two additional units, completing its transition to electric-powered vehicles.
